Raising LKR 5 Million fund to provide 5 laptops annually, for ten years, to deserving first-year students of the Department of Building Economics, University of Moratuwa, through a zero-interest loan scheme, repayable only after graduation.
The proposed loan scheme will operate as follows:
Beginning with the 2025 intake, the DoBE will annually select eligible students from the new intake who require laptop support. The DoBE will then provide the QSAA with the names of the selected students and the total number of laptops required.
The QSAA will supply up to five (5) brand-new laptops each year, configured according to the DoBE’s specifications. These laptops will be provided exclusively to the students identified by the Department.
Students receiving laptops will bear full responsibility for their maintenance and servicing. The QSAA will not assume any liability for repairs, replacements, or servicing of the devices once they have been distributed.
The laptops are to be used strictly for academic purposes. The DoBE will actively monitor the academic progress and conduct of the recipients. In cases where a student demonstrates unsatisfactory academic performance, the DoBE reserves the right to request the immediate return of the laptop to the QSAA.
Beneficiary students are required to begin repaying the cost of the laptop within three (3) months of completing their fourth academic year. The full repayment must be completed within twelve (12) months since the commencement of repayment.
Repayments will be interest-free and may be made in flexible installments. All payments are to be deposited into an account designated by the QSAA.
Prior to receiving the laptops, all beneficiary students must enter into a tripartite agreement with the QSAA and the DoBE. This agreement will outline the responsibilities of each party and the terms of the loan arrangement.
